SIX OF THE BEST: Summer anti-ageing tips

Look younger from head to toe with expert advice from Good Housekeeping

1. Cell turnover slows with age and exposure to the sun, so step up your exfoliating routine to once or twice a week. As well as keeping clogging at bay, removing dead skin cells also makes age spots appear softer, pores smaller, lines less evident and the skin tone more radiant.

2. Add a squirt of Givenchy Glow to Wear, £23.48 (01932 233 824) into your after sun, body lotion or face cream. It’ll give a subtle, youthful sheen to suntanned limbs and a sophisticated sheen to pale skin.

3. Want a sharper jawline and cheekbones? ‘Apply your bronzer along the perimeter of your face around the hair line, then along the jaw line and just under your cheekbones’ says Caroline Barnes, Max Factor makeup artist. ‘It’s a play on shade and light - darkening the outside of your face, whilst keeping the T zone lighter will add definition to your bone structure and bring out your features’

4. Give your legs instant colour and help to camouflage ageing veins and cellulite with Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan Makeup in Bronze or Golden, £7.99.  The mousse texture goes on easily and stays put until you wash it off. For longer lasting effects try Clarins Delicious Self-Tanning Cream, £19.50, which gives an instant caramel tint, while colour develops underneath.

5. Go for waterproof mascara in the summer, as smudges make you look tired and can add on years. Good buys include YSL Everlong Waterproof Mascara, £20 and Max Factor Maxx Waterproof, £8.99.

6. Puffy eyes? Keep your eye cream in the fridge or splash the eye area with iced water – the cold boosts the circulation, encouraging drainage.
